What’s your reason for wanting to plant trees and shrubs on your property? We’ve got something for each of those:
Butterflies – Spicebush is a host plant for the Spicebush Swallowtail butterfly and Arrowwood is a host for the Spring Azure butterfly
Shorelines – pick any of the trees or shrubs we’ve got on offer this year
Birds – American Mountain Ash, Shadblow Serviceberry, Red Oak, Black Chokeberry, Highbush Cranberry and Winterberry all have nuts or berries that will feed the birds through fall & winter
Make sure that you have May 24th marked on your to-do list. Come by Elvin Johnson Park from 10am to 2pm and purchase some native trees and shrubs for your shoreline, to attract pollinators, to slow down runoff, to deter Canada Geese and to make a difference to the environment – including our water quality. The bare root plants will need to be planted right away and are very affordable at only $5 each cash and carry. If we all do a little each year to improve our precious Halls and Hawk Lakes area, the results will pay off in a big way.
