Enjoy the Night Sky

Our first-ever Astronomy Night on Saturday August 12th is an all-ages event.  Many thanks to the Smith family who are hosting the event at 1097 Lil’s Lane, just off Big Hawk Lake Road (the Henderson cottage).

You can also come by boat on Big Hawk Lake, just to the west of Scott’s Point.  The beach entry is very shallow, so approach with extra care.

Bring a lawn chair, beach towels or blankets for stargazing as well as telescopes and binoculars if you have some. It would be fun if several people brought telescopes and set them up on the beach to sight different objects. Participants could then walk around and look through each scope.

Plan to arrive between 8-8:30 and use your flashlights sparingly in order for your eyes to adjust to the night sky.

Presenter Julia Smith will share her fascination with the stars and planets. As a bonus, we will be able to enjoy the Perseid Meteor Shower at its peak.
Please register in advance so that refreshments can be organized and also so that we can email you if there is a weather postponement. Right now, there is a strong probability for overcast skies and rain on Saturday.
