Happy Canada Day!

And Happy Independence Day for those American neighbours celebrating with us. Enjoy time with your family and friends in the beautiful Halls and Hawk Lakes area!

Our “Year of the Loon” tip for you – boat safely and with care for our loons! Go slow to create no wake close to shorelines and keep your eyes peeled to stay well away from loons on the water. We learned last Saturday that boat strikes are a major cause of injuries in loons.

Here are some other  tips for safe boating in Canada from Ontario Parks:

  • Wear your lifejacket. Carry a Canadian approved PFD on board, sized for each passenger. But don’t just carry it, WEAR IT.
  • Don’t boat impaired. Boating under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs is not just illegal; it’s irresponsible.
  • Anyone driving a motorized boat must have a Pleasure Craft Operator Card

Are you planning fireworks at the lake? Here is the current Algonquin Highlands Township Bylaw regarding when fireworks are permitted:

Canada Day – between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. When Canada Day falls on Monday or Tuesday, permitted use is on the weekend prior and on the holiday. See their website for more detail.
