Our “Year of the Loon” tip for you – boat safely and with care for our loons! Go slow to create no wake close to shorelines and keep your eyes peeled to stay well away from loons on the water. We learned last Saturday that boat strikes are a major cause of injuries in loons.
Here are some other tips for safe boating in Canada from Ontario Parks:
- Wear your lifejacket. Carry a Canadian approved PFD on board, sized for each passenger. But don’t just carry it, WEAR IT.
- Don’t boat impaired. Boating under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs is not just illegal; it’s irresponsible.
- Anyone driving a motorized boat must have a Pleasure Craft Operator Card
