Algonquin Highlands has joined a province-wide change in how recycling is handled and what is accepted at the waste disposal sites as of January 1.
The list of what will now be accepted is lengthy however as of right now, onsite staff are still asking that plastic and container recycling be removed from their plastic bag (if you use one) and that cardboard boxes are broken down.
You can download a free mobile app called “Circular Materials” so you always have details on hand. The Algonquin Highlands website has detailed information here https://www.circularmaterials.ca/resident-communities/algonquin-highlands/
HHLPOA hosted a hike and garbage collection event last fall near the former Hawk Lake waste disposal site. Did you know what the most common item of garbage was? Potato chip bags! You’ll be happy to know that potato chip bags can be recycled.
