The Special Meeting of Haliburton County Council to discuss the Shoreline Preservation bylaw was held on January 27th. The agenda contemplated discussion of communication plans, upcoming public consultations, and thorough FAQs to better inform the community. In light of the extensive feedback and complexity of the matter, the Councillors concluded that they lacked the requisite technical expertise to continue with the formulation of the Shoreline Preservation bylaw. Council passed a motion to pursue an RFP process to retain an outside consulting firm to lead to the development of a draft Shoreline Preservation bylaw by reviewing the materials and feedback, canvassing the landscape (the views and actions of other municipalities), considering the related science, and consulting with the various stakeholders. It is expected that the RFP process and consultations will take several months to complete. The public consultation originally scheduled for March 24th is postponed. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more and the process unfolds.
Here is some more information on the proposed bylaw.
